Gustav Klimt on lake Attersee

Everybody is familiar with the fascinating paintings of Gustav Klimt (1862 – 1918). Numerous panels provide information about Gustav Klimt’s relationship with the region and guide you around the lake to the villages, where the Viennese art nouveau painter spent many summers.

To mark his 150th birthday a new Gustav Klimt centre will open on 14th July 2012.

Along with Claude Monets gardens in Giverny, Paul Cèzanne´s work in Aix-en-Provence and Egon Schiele´slive in Český Krumlov Lake Attersee is a unique place of work for artist Gustav Klimt (1862-1918). Here he found inspiration for the majority of his famous landscape paintings. With his stunning sceneries Klimt influenced classical modern art.

Even the famous art nouveau painter Gustav Klimt appreciated lake Attersee at Salzkammergut in order to find inspiration for his paintings.

Gustav Klimt Technique

1897 he founded the Vienna Sezession, becoming its first president until 1905. Klimt’s style was a compelling blend of Art Nouveau and Symbolist elements towards the turn of the century. His paintings were the core of Viennese art.
